A drive axle, or driveshaft, is ultimately responsible for power transmission from the engine to the wheels. Total failure of the driveshaft is not a common issue, however problems do occur with the joints on the shaft. Lack of lubrication or simply worn/loose joints may need to be replaced and if ignored can cause damage to the shaft itself. Often replacement of the entire driveshaft (including all joints) is more economical. See this section for full replacement driveshafts, CV joints and CV boots.
